IMPORTANT NOTICE: Overweight Trucks Face New Technology

March 10, 2008 -- Law-breaking truckers could soon face the digital scales of justice.
The city's Transportation Department is set to test a weight-activated traffic camera that adjusts to bust
trucks that are too heavy.
Using technology similar to red-light traffic cameras, this spycam is triggered by a truck's tonnage.
When big rigs rumble down the street, a sensor weighs the truck and snaps a shot of the license
plate. "The systems that we are testing are potential tools to help keep overweight trucks off our
streets," said DOT spokesman Seth Solomonow.

What does our Attorney and Former NYS Traffic Court Judge have to say about this?

Judge Evans, made a point about this new technology and overweight trucks. Don't go overweight, it
will be difficult if not impossible to defend and the fines at $1.00 per overweight pound, will add up to
potentially some very steep fines. For example, if your truck is 15,000 pounds overweight you may end
up paying $15,000 for that single infraction. If this happens enough times it could put some
companies out of business!
